Mineral Monday

Vitamins, Minerals and other important Elements:

Iron
Today's snippet is on Iron and its important role in sustaining our health.

Feeling tired all the time? Got a hitch in your giddyup? Depressed a bit, here and there? You may be lacking iron.

Did you know that over half of American's suffer from Iron-deficiency anemia? Close to 60% of the population actually; making it the second highest deficiency disease in America. Among its many jobs, iron plays an irreplaceable role in transporting oxygen from the lungs to the blood. Also, enzymes containing iron are responsible for taking the food (good and bad) we put into our bodies and helping convert that food into energy. Try adding lean poultry, fish, dried beans or spinach to your diet for an extra dose of iron. For adults, the RDI (recommended daily intake) of iron is between 15-18 milligrams.

*Before adding supplements to your diet it is always encouraged you seek the advisement of your personal health care professional.
